Payday 3's 2020 Build Was Leaked

Intro

Intro

well, today's been a very interesting day for payday 3, as Star Breze decided to fully embrace acknowledgement.

Context: what is this build?

Version of Payday 3's build, and plasted it on Reddit and also on YouTube. I believe it was a walkthrough of two different heists, one of which was a very similar version of No S for the Wicked but without all of the actual colored design texts, etc., and there was another map as well that was a little bit less well made.

It showed some loud gameplay and also some stealth gameplay, gave you a look at a UI, and some different music we hadn't heard before. There was a track in there composed by Gustavo Kimio that isn't in the full game. You can find that on YouTube. I don't think that's been taken. Down and it LEDs people pointing out certain things within the build like the reusing of payday 2's UI with the police assault in progress the old armor system still being present and on top of that other little bits like new unique drills where much like in Crime Boss Rocket City that game that everyone, loves right you could speed up a drill and if you sped up the drill it would overheat faster but you would also get the objective done possibly a bit quicker if you sat on top of it and kept it guarded while it was heating up the drill also told you the material it was drilling though and I mean that wasn't necessarily strictly relevant but it was a cool little feature on the screen and I kind of would like that a bit of shop window dressing for your drills that could be really cool this build was put up on Reddit, and then just as swiftly was taken down under dmca, copyright claims.

Why are starbreeze acknowledging it?

Why are starbreeze acknowledging it?

While it struggles to even have several hundred players at any one time on Steam, goodness knows what the console charts look like. Every update so far has been met with as much positivity as it has criticism, if not more criticism, and so Starbre is desperately trying to make this game relevant.

And stop it from being an actual Dead game, unlike the meme that Payday 2 became, and so as a company desperate to get some life back in their flagship franchise, as soon as there's any kind of news debate or anything that pops up, it's wise for them to acknowledge it and play into it, whether it looks good or bad on them from different people's perspectives.

It has a server browser.

It has a server browser.

And so we have today's stream as I said Elmer and Mio played this build live and talked some things through and I took a few notes I just want to talk over my overall thoughts there won't be a PDF on the screen here this is just me giving a bit more of a free form discussion, about this build so first off let's talk about the obvious thing as soon as you get into this build you can see quite clearly in the main menu that you can play on a server browser to find lobbies, as well as having solo play as an option for any level you load up in the game and so that was the biggest point of contention, proper solid proof that isn't just hidden in the game files that you did have a server browser at one point for payday 3 so why did that go well as you might expect server browser didn't get any kind of clarification.

Because it's a stupid thing, and you should never have left the game. There's no reason why that isn't there, and I don't understand why on Earth it was ever taken out.

The 2020 build has offline mode!

However, the always online thing did get a bit of attention from MiO, and so it's the first thing I want to focus on. He said that as they added more things to the game, more of the things they were adding functionality for needed servers.

For example, all the AI in the game runs on dedicated servers, and they wanted to avoid taking up too many computer resources in development and also in gameplay, so as time went by, he didn't really say the words definitively. But he implied that was the reason they basically just went well. Most things are online; let's make it all online.

I'm just going to call this out right now if I'm wrong and there's any clarification. M and Alma can give, please do give it, but I personally have heard about four different excuses now for why there's always online, and this is the first time I've heard this one, so I have absolutely zero trust that this is a reason it could very well be the case that a lot of these things were done.

Ser asides, they decided to make it all online, but it was never a reason they fronted within the game; they talked about piracy; they talked about trying to make crossplay more manageable for consoles and PC. They've spat out basically any reason that sounded logical at this point, so I don't know which ones are true and which ones are false, so I'm washing my hands of that.

I'm just saying what Mio said and moving on because I personally am not taking that with any kind of sincerity. Nothing against Moo. I've just heard so many different things at this point that I just don't know what to believe, and I'm pretty sure that other people in the community are feeling the same way.

Locke was the original handler?

Locke was the original handler?

Next up, a few of the other topics, like the armor system UI and also Lock being the voiceover in the background, all came up in one big discussion from me, and this one I do fully appreciate.

Like he was in Payday 2, because by the end of Payday 2, that just wasn't true. Lock was the main handler for the group, so it feels like you're doing Lock a disservice by saying that, because surely there should have at least been some consideration to keep him around people like Lock. He's a fan favorite character, and I can understand having him there as a placeholder and moving against it, but to say that you never intended to have Lock there. That hurts, that stinks, that wasn't even considered; that is an oversight in my opinion, and one of many things this game has had, however, is things like armor.

Using payday 2's armour

Using payday 2's armour

Mo did say they had already decided they were going to do different armor systems in Payday 3; they just kept payday 2s in there while they were testing things out; they wanted to build on from there, and talking about armor specifically, he said that when they were developing the game, they wanted to prioritize the feeling of the overall heisting experience.
